Our Story

Velvet Nail Bar started in 2019 from a single chair in a shared studio space in De Pijp. I'd trained as a nail technician in both Amsterdam and London, and what I kept running into — in every busy salon I worked in — was the rush. Forty clients a day, thirty minutes each, no real conversation about what anyone actually wanted. I wanted to build something slower than that.
Every appointment here begins with a proper conversation: your preferred shape, how you use your hands, whether you want something that grows out gracefully or something bold for an event. I use HEMA-free gel exclusively — not as a marketing point, but because clients with sensitive skin or frequent wear deserve products that won't cause a reaction over time. That's just the baseline.
Five years on, it's still one artist per appointment, still the same unhurried pace, still the same chair in a slightly nicer studio. If you've never had a nail appointment where you left feeling like the result was actually yours, I'd love to be the one who changes that.
